FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
- How do I book a massage therapy appointment?
Give our lovely receptionist Debbie a call. She will personally work with you to find a day/time that suits your busy schedule the best. We are open from 7am to 8pm, Monday to Friday and Saturday from 8am to 3pm. Call our receptionist at 403-282-8050 or visit or contact page to book an appointment. - What type of massage therapy do you offer?
Deep Tissue Massage Therapist Calgary:
A deep tissue massage focuses on rehabilitating and realigning the deep layers of muscles and connective tissue. The goal of a deep tissue massage is to alleviate chronic muscle tension and asset in injury recovery. A deep tissue massage can sometimes cause slight discomfort that will remain for a day or two after treatment. Don’t worry, this is totally normal! This type of massage aims to release toxins from the body by massaging the targeted muscle. We advise patents to drink plenty of water before and after your massage, this will help rid your body of these toxins.
Most deep tissue sessions will begin with gentle pressure to warm up the muscles. Gradually your Massage Therapist will increase the pressure, massaging deeper into your muscles. It is very important that we gradually work up our way towards deep pressure. If deep pressure is applied immediately, the muscles will automatically contract in order to protect themselves. This contraction will cause pain and often injury. Hence why your massage therapist will start with light pressure to warm up the muscles. The majority of our deep tissue massages will use a very small amount of high quality organic oil or organic lotion.
During your Deep Tissue Massage your Massage Therapist will be looking for trigger points to release. A trigger point is an area of tight muscles fibres that often form due to an injury or overuse. They can be very sensitive and often are the source of pain throughout a muscle. There are two types of trigger points; active and latent. Active trigger points will be painful all the time. When pressure is applied to that area, pain will often refer to other parts of the body. Latent trigger points are only painful when they are touched. When pressure is applied, pain is localized to that specific muscle. A massage therapist will use deep tissue techniques to release trigger points and alleviate pain. However, there are many other benefits that can be gained over time from deep tissue massages including; increased range of motion, increased circulation and reduced stiffness.Sports Massage Therapist Calgary:
A sports massage involves a combination of different types of massage techniques and treatments that cater to the individual athletes needs. Sports massage techniques can include relaxation, therapeutic and deep tissue massage. Athletes look to optimize their athletic function and ability, in order to stay competitive. They spend countless hours exercising, weight lifting and running drills. When this much attention goes into performance, it is only logical that we keep our muscles in an optimal state by relieving tension, increasing range of motion and reducing stiffness, through a targeted sports therapy massage. Benefits of this specialized massage are reduced swelling, increased energy, increased flexibility, injury prevention and pain relief.
Relaxation Massage Therapist Calgary:
Relaxation massage therapy aims to address the root cause of your issues and alleviate any symptoms you are experiencing. This includes postural analysis and advanced techniques for headaches, neck stiffness and tightness in the back. You can expect a combination of techniques such as kneading, rolling and gentle flowing pressure to target layers of muscle.
This massage therapy session is ideal for individuals who spend a lot of time sitting at a desk or working from home. The benefits of a relaxation massage include, but are not limited to: muscle tension relief, improved circulation and an increase in energy. Due to the gentle nature of a relaxation massage, it is not intended for those looking to treat sports injuries. That being said, a relaxing massage is excellent for reducing muscle tension and returning the body to a relaxed state. When the body is relaxed, you are less likely to get injured because the muscles and soft tissues are less stiff. We often recommend athletes to book a relaxation massage in-between games. Our physiotherapists will also refer patients who work from home or sit at a desk to book a relaxation massage.
Therapeutic Massage Therapy Calgary:
Therapeutic massage therapy is an incredibly effective, highly specialized type of massage therapy, that focuses on injury recovery rather than just relaxation. The the purpose of this massage is to achieve structural changes and therapeutic benefits to the body. Your massage therapist will mobilize soft tissues (muscles, tendons, fascia, etc.), utilizes a variety of techniques and modalities to restore normal function. They can work alongside your physiotherapist at Brentwood Physio to create a highly specialized personalized treatment plan that will help you recovery faster from whatever injury is slowing you down.
