COVID-19 Restrictions in Calgary – Physiotherapist

Physiotherapists in Calgary recognize the critical role that physiotherapy plays in the overall health and wellbeing of Calgarians. We recognize that the COVID-19 situation is rapidly changing, which leads to uncertainty and anxiety. This makes it difficult to know what we can and cannot do. We have seen an alarming increase in low back and neck pain injuries, directly attributed to the more sedentary lifestyles Calgarians have transitioned to when working from home. Our team at Brentwood Physiotherapy is committed to providing guidance to Calgarians stay informed and up to date during these times.

Today marks four weeks since province moved into Step 1 of reopening plan. Alberta Premier, Jason Kenny announced that Alberta is to move forward with a reduced phase 2. Effective today, some indoor fitness activities and libraries are to be eased. Retail businesses, conference centers, community halls and children sports have be delayed.

Low intensity individual and group exercises are now allowed without a trainer. Low intensity fitness includes activities not focused specifically on cardio, that have a low depth and rate of respiration. This includes: barre, pilates, stretching, tai-chi, low intensity yoga (e.g. hatha, yin), light weightlifting, indoor rock climbing.

High intensity activities are only permitted for one-on-one or one-on-one household training only, with a trainer. This includes bodybuilding/heavy weightlifting, aerobics, rowing, Zumba, bootcamp, circuit training, cross fit, dance fitness, high intensity interval training, kickboxing, spin, power yoga, swimming etc.

Below we have created a quick breakdown outlining these new measures.

These actions are a result of new evidence showing 45% of the spread of COVID-19 has been traced back to transmission at home and at social gatherings. Our team at Brentwood Physiotherapy takes the health of patients and their families very seriously. We are practicing the highest standards of sanitization and disinfection in the clinic. These procedures have been implemented by our COO, who has applied his background in chemistry to establish the highest level of health & safety. We will be monitoring the situation closely and at this time we will continue to remain open and accept new patients

All patients coming into our clinic are being pre-screened according the AHS directions and re-directed, if necessary to their family doctors, 811 or online to conduct a Covid-19 self assessment at:
